Event 5 - Review Section

During the review section, Professor Vesna and the TAs explained some of the common pitfalls of our blog entries and some suggestions they had to improve our writing for the final paper.

Some of the common pitfalls were:
  • Not being specific: saying how they "liked this" but not explaining any further.
  • There weren't many arguments, instead people were reiterating what was said during the lectures.
  • The idea in the blog was all over the place because there was no topic sentence
  • Not proofreading.

Some advice they gave for the final paper was:
  • Reading our work out loud in order to proofread.
  • Choosing a topic that is related to our major so that we write about something we're interested in.
  • When we say that we "liked something," state why we liked it and explain.
  • Use pictures as break points and also introduce the reader to your idea.
  • Writing captions explaining the photos.

Final Project Plan:

  • Monday 5/29: Write out the blog summary. Get an idea of what to write for the final project
  • Tuesday 5/30: Decide on what topic to write on
  • Thursday 6/1: Finish basic research on the topics I will be writing about
  • Tuesday 6/6: Finish rough draft, start revision process
  •  Saturday 6/10: Finish paper
